We use electronic timing system that requires the use of a personal transponder attached to you car. We can lend you one for your first race, then you will need your own that will permanently linked to your racer ID.

Our winter series is incredibly popular, and our track is fast becoming known as one of the best in the North West. To maximise track time during the limited time slot, we run the day more tightly than our summer series.  Smaller gaps between races, mean you need to be on your toes or you might miss the start of your race.

Doors open at 8:30am and we would like as much help as possible to set the track up for the first race to start promptly at  9:15am. We also need every racer to help clear the track away for 2pm.  If everyone helps it means we can have a little practice time, and fit 1 more round of racing into the day.  There are generally 7 races each round, giving us time for 4 rounds of qualifying and 2 finals if we are efficient with our time.

We have just 1 min between races so you must be ready to join the rostrum before the end of the race prior to yours, and after your race you need to switch off your car and head straight to your marshal point.

The most popular indoor classes are 2WD Modern and Vintage 2WD, and there are usually A,B and C finals to qualify for.  4WD is less popular, so we ask that if we don’t have at least 5 registered cars by the Saturday prior to race day, you prepare to run an alternative car. Why?

Modern 4WD are incredibly quick indoors.  Most of the field will do just as many laps with their restricted motors as the very fastest 2WD cars. They are also very robust and don’t mix well with 2WD or Vintage cars.   We also need at least 5 cars to ensure we have enough marshals for the following race.

If you are running 2 cars in different classes please consider how you will marshal both races following your own.  We will try and organise heats to avoid you doing back-to-back races and missing your marshalling duty. However, you should prepare to have someone cover your duty should that situation arise in the Finals.

A typical indoor race meeting runs in this order.

Race 1 - 2WD (new racers C/D finals)

Race 2 - 2WD

Race 3 - 2WD

Race 4 - 2WD (top seeded racers)

Race 5- 4WD

Race 6 - Vintage 2WD (new racers)

Race 7 - Vintage 2WD (top seeded)

There is a maximum of 8 cars per race, so an absolute maximum of 56 cars. We often sell out of some classes, so please let us know if you need to cancel, as someone may be waiting for a race slot

How it works…

A race meet starts at 8:30am. The club committee will unlock the equipment and everyone will help set up the track, and then set up their pit area.

The heat list will be published on rc-results.com and the race director will anounce this, and that the track is open for practice by 8:50am (ish) This depends on how much help we get to set up.

The first qualifying heat to start is the modern 2wd class. There are usually 2 - 3 heats of 2WD as it is the most popular class.

This is followed by qualifying heats for Modern 4WD, then Vintage 2WD and Vintage 4WD last.

There are usually 4 rounds of qualifying heats. Each time you get to start in the order you finished the last heat so you get a better chance to improve your times. In qualifying you are trying to complete the most laps in the 5 min race.

In these heats you will set off when your race number is called out. You will get your number from the RC Results website on your phone. The race director will also call it out in the 30s countdown to the start. Each car sets off about 2 seconds apart.

Everyone will compete in a final (A, B or C) where you will be lined up in a grid like an F1 motor race. Everyone starts at the same time when the buzzer sounds and the race is on!

After every race you will need to head straight out onto the track for your marshaling duty. Marshaling means you will help cars that crash get back on the track. Mostly when they end up on their roof.

When marshaling you will stand in a safe part of the track and watch your area, responding quickly but safely to crashed cars. Someone will help you on your first event.
