Start 08:30 at Canal Head, Kendal, finish 14:00

Depending on numbers entered there will usually be 4 qualifying rounds and a final, or 2 final style races. Current popularity of certain classes mean a typical race meet would be

  • 3 Races of 2WD with 8 cars (24)

  • 1 Race of 4WD with 8 cars (8)

  • 2 Races of Vintage 2WD with 8 cars (16)

  • 1 Race of Vintage 4WD with 8 cars (8)

This makes are indoor capacity is 56 cars, which is quite tight and makes for an exciting morning of racing. If there is more demand for a certain class, the club committee might adjust numbers to accommodate.

How it works…

A race meet starts at 8:30am. The club committee will unlock the equipment and everyone will help set up the track, and then set up their pit area.

The heat list will be published on rc-results.com and the race director will anounce this, and that the track is open for practice by 8:50am (ish)

The first qualifying heat to start is the modern 2wd class. There are usually 2 - 3 heats of 2WD as it is the most popular class.

This is followed by qualifying heats for Modern 4WD, then Vintage 2WD and Vintage 4WD last.

There are usually 4 rounds of qualifying heats. Each time you get to start in the order you finished the last heat so you get a better chance to improve your times. In qualifying you are trying to complete the most laps in the 5 min race. I

n these heats you will set off when your race number is called out. You will get your number from the RC Results website on your phone. The race director will also call it out in the 30s countdown to the start. Each car sets off about 2 seconds apart.

Everyone will compete in a final (A, B or C) where you will be lined up in a grid like an F1 motor race. Everyone starts at the same time when the buzzer sounds and the race is on!

After every race you will need to head straight out onto the track for your marshaling duty. Marshaling means you will help cars that crash get back on the track. Mostly when they end up on their roof.

When marshaling you will stand in a safe part of the track and watch your area, responding quickly but safely to crashed cars. Someone will help you on your first event.
